Mom and me style, Thursday Moda linkup

Ada & Stephanie with the Kids in Calla Lillies Dress by VBxTarget styled for SpringIt is time for a link up PARTAAAYY! And Ada from Elegance and mommy hood was kind enough to ask me to participate in this week’s Thursday Moda, mom and me style. Love things like this you get to branch out and help another blogger friend out and vice versa. And how cute do they look?!!!! We are both sharing how we style our Victoria Beckham for Target Calla Lilly dresses. Last time I did it was more Mod with OTK boots(you can read it here)

Anyways, It was super nice of her to do that so be sure to follow along her blog and her insta too @adafurxi  she loves to share fashion and life with her little! 🙂

Victoria Beckham for target and cat and jack for targetSo, my little didn’t have a calla lilly anything. So I pulled out his Cat and JAck for Target black cargos and a basic white button down. This outfit matched the black and white of my dress, and we all know how much I love black and white. One thing though…..I wish there was little boy clothes as part of the collection. You know. Just sayin. I will go back to my hunt of matching band tees or nerd tees.

SKreened is callin my name. Callin I say, Callin!

mommy and me outfitsThe shoot for this was so last minute, confession time. My little was under the weather(which thank goodness in a way because he sat still.) And so I made this quick and painless. Instead of going to the white wall or something I stuck close to home grabbed a wrought iron chair and put him in it. And that is OK.

VIctoria beckham for target and cat and jack for targetMotherhood, I guess since this a more of a Mother’s day themed post (right?) I should talk about it a bit? Motherhood is hard SO HARD. But worth it, and the mom shaming is awful now. The flaunting, the obsessive bday parties, the everything must be perfect. The if you aren’t taking 80000000 PROFESSIONAL photos of your child like this person is that means you are a shit parent. Sucks. Sorry the rant about professional pics is a real convo I had and while I wasn’t called a shit parent, it certainly made me feel like one. SO HERE IS WHY I DONT!

It is a waste of the photographer’s time! My son has ASD(autism) the chances of a stranger getting his pictures without blur, or crying will be next to none. We had them done 2 times in his life as a newborn, he was not able to move and then at 1. We only got a handful of pictures. Like seriously 4 to 5 pictures.( we didn’t know he was autistic then) so, I would rather not waste their time, or mine. There. Said it. I feel better. And yes, i said something to that effect.

Ohhhh this went to a dark place, I am sorry. SO sorry. Anyways, I take his pictures. All of them, and have actually been researching how to take them better. Not only does this help me as a fashion blogger this helps me as a mom who takes a million pictures of her little. And P.S. he is a selfie pro!

Being a mom of an autistic child has certainly taught me a lot as a mom. Patience is the big one. He isn’t like other kids and that is OK.I also learned that IT is OK to cry, cry with them, cry for them. It is OK. And I have learned for sure to dance like no one is looking. And really no one is looking because they are looking into their phones. I have learned how to be a Mother of Dragons and not just a mom. I have to be, with a child like mine if you aren’t you WILL and CAN get walked on. Walked on by Doctors, insurances, therapists, and OMG the schools. You become your child’s biggest advocate. Their biggest cheering squad. You learn how to really get down and into the nitty gritty of time management with them, because of appointments. You learn how to handle a child who can not talk and learn their cues. You become over worrisome and yes a bit overbearing(guilty as charged) . Things get tossed around a lot, schedules, food, the kid. You become strong and know that sometimes they don’t mean things like a scratch or bite because they can not tell you what is wrong. And that is the last draw for them.

You want to hold on to them as long as possible. And hope that they are OK. And do the best that you can.

Because one day, their little wings will develop and grow. And they will fly. And like a mother of dragons you want to be there to encourage and catch them if they fall. Flames and all.

Steal my style!

These are such sweet photos of you and your son! Loving your white floral crown – so pretty on you!

  • Molly May 11, 2017 at 5:17 PM

You both look so beautiful! Don’t worry what society says. The only opinion that matters is that of your little angel. Good job Mom!!!

    • Stephanie May 11, 2017 at 11:49 PM

Thank you so much Molly. I think a lot of us get so wrapped up in what “people think” that we loose sight of what is important. The kid.

  • Ada May 12, 2017 at 5:02 AM

Smiling and crying at the same time as I read this and it is about 1 AM. First of all you look gorgeous as does your little handsome guy. Love the crown you made. I want one! Secondly it is my pleasure and such a huge honor to have you today. You were one of my favorite co-hosts and this was one of my most fave collabs ever. I love that dress on both of us.

But really what you wrote is what touched me the most. Not only the kind words about me and my blog. But what you wrote about your son. It touched me to the core. You are a mom of slaying dragons – all those dragons that seem to get in his way. You are a mamma bear. A mamma bear is always holding and hugging and protecting their child.

    Happy Mothers’ Day beautiful Stephanie!!

    <3 Ada.

Such a beautiful dress, and it looks lovely with the floral headband. Being a mum is such hard work, and it’s different for everyone. I’ve never had a professional photo shoot for my daughter – I prefer the natural ones anyway.

Thank you!!!!! Yes it is. I had professional pics when he was a baby and at his 1 yr. But it was the last times. Oh and for Christmas that same year.
