On Trend is velvet right now. Velvet is being found everywhere in stores. You will see this velvety and lux trend in clothing and also in your shoes as well as in home furnishings. Even kids have this trend in their clothing sections. More girls than boys, as much as I love the fabric, for kids especially in FL, I think it can be a bit too hot for them. I even heard an NPR story about velvet’s comeback. Anyway, velvet is where it is at for fashion this fall/winter 17. And I am OK with that. Especially since I own a few pairs of velvet shoes and this dress. I want a pair of velvet leggings from Target too.
When I think of velvet clothes my mind wanders into two places, one from being a kid and wearing those velvety puffy dresses at Christmas. The other thought is all about the Renaissance . The peak of the velvet trend in history. It is actually quite interesting to read up on it. The fabric style is really old dating back to China B.C.E, Iran B.C, and Egypt B.C. Only the super wealthy at that time could afford it.
So now that you got a history lesson on my blog Glamorousandgeeky, lets talk about how I styled this super old world fabric. For the outfit, I went for a simpler look with the velvet dress. I went with dainty jewelry as opposed to the bulky statement piece of the other day, that post is here. And since it is fall, or so we all think, I wore my OTK boots from ZAFUL. In Florida you just have to wear them any way you can or you never will! The over the knee boots with the velvet dress just combines two of my favorite things for fall! Velvet and boots.
And since we were at the Zoo, I brought out my ALDO handbag with the Cockatoos. It is one of my favorite summer bags, The colors from the purse compliments the color of the rich green velvet dress and the neutral beige of the OTK boots. It pops and yet still is very much a part of the outfit and not so much an after thought.
So, let us also talk about the location for the shoot. I took my son and MIL to the zoo for some afternoon fun before getting my son his new shoes. It was not sure if it wanted to rain or not. The weather was over cast and then some rays of sunshine peeked through. Of course after I get everything set up it goes overly cloudy and I am left with what you see. And then because it was wet out, my poor little fell.
He went to see the Otters, his favorite animals at the zoo, and got overly excited. He slipped and fell, he smashed against a rock. I didn’t get to him in time. He is OK, just really bruised on the cheek and he bit his lip a teeny bit. Honestly, I was more upset than him. He was sore, still is today, and all night he couldn’t get comfy in bed. But, I was the one in the panic, while he cried a little, the bleeding stopped quick and he was back to wanting in his stroller and go shopping. He was a bit cranky the rest of the afternoon and super sensitive. But, he was also bouncy and happy at the same time. Kids all handle pain differently. When I say he is made of rubber bands and Teflon, I mean it. This kid is the Dragon Born, I swear. (Sorry Skyrim Reference, I haven’t had coffee.)
