So since having a baby, let’s just say I did what I have been meaning to do for a long time. Clean my closet out. It was a hard thing to do and what made me really think hard about doing it, was when I went to try things on and they didn’t fit. I know I just had a baby, but let us be honest. There are things in my closet that are tired, worn out, and need replacing. I watched an episode of hoarders and I went ham on my closet. And I feel so good!

So how do you go about cleaning out your closet? There is a method to it and I am going to share how I do it. And how I justify it! Let us get down to that closet toss.
Is it worn?
What I mean by this isn’t “do I wear it?” No, this is in reference to being OVER worn, yes we all have those pieces we go back and back and back to, but when it is falling apart. Guys it is time to toss. Men I think are worse about this. Who here has a hubby or boyfriend that refuses to throw socks or underwear away? “The elastic is still good!” As Gordon Ramsey would say “Bullocks!” Get rid of that holy underwear and socks. The other thing is, is it stained? The most notorious is pit stains. (YUCK!) But, being honest here white tees get the worst of it. Toss them if you can not get the stains out. If there are holes and if the tee is bacon get rid of it! Think about this!
OK, so sometimes we need a bit of perspective. So, take everything out of your closet, out of your dresser and toss it on the bed. Then separate into piles. Definite toss, donate, sell, and keep. This helps me and guess what I end up getting rid of more.
Does it fit?
If it doesn’t fit and never will again, get rid of it. No “but if I loose the weight” Just don’t do that A. it is self sabotage and B. it will just sit there. I am guilty of this too. If things do not fit I get rid of it and save myself the headache of looking at a garment longingly wishing I was that fit again. I know I will be, but damn it gets depressing.
I remember Oprah once saying if you haven’t worn something in over a year, get rid of it. And she is right, chances are if you haven’t worn something in over a year, you will never wear it. So get rid of it. And this is my biggest thing I follow. Yes, I was pregnant for almost a year, but there were things that I wouldn’t wear again. And I didn’t touch it in a year.
These tips help me every time, I get to cleaning my closet out and dump that excess baggage. I feel better and guess what? I can replace things with stuff that fits! Stuff that is in style and stuff I can show on the blog without the feeling of I have worn this a million times.
And guys go through your bras! Toss anything that doesn’t fit, the wire is out, and is so stretched out that it will take a miracle of God to pull it back. You will thank me.
When was the last time you cleaned your closet? Do you follow similar rules?
