Letting them dress themselves.

My 5yr is old is finally taking an interest at picking his own clothes. And sometimes we have a great hit of an outfit for him and then sometimes we have a bit of a weird combination. But that is OK, as they grow we need to start letting them figure it out on their own. Only lending a hand here and there, making sure nothing is backwards or doesn’t fit anymore.

My son is Autistic and so him being interested in picking out his clothes are monumental. But we make sure and other’s when they buy his clothes know to make things easily interterpredid as going together. MY son’s outfit today, is actually a mix of PJ’s and normal street clothes.

Which is fine, as he tried to put it, controllers. There are controllers on the pants and on the shirt, and the colors did go. And it works, he tried so hard. The other outfit he wore was a blue tee and plaid blue shorts. I am so proud of my boy so proud! He is growing up and he is learning more and more. And I keep learning more! Letting the littles get dressed on their own and picking out their clothes, develops self confidence. This is so crucial, especially for kids like mine. Yeah, he will fail a few times getting things on backwards, but it is OK. They tried! And that is so good for them! Trying and failing means they will get better. And yes, we all step in and help. I usually do after the 3rd try of backwards pants. But, watching how proud he is of himself and seeing him look at himself in the big mirror, just makes me feel like I am doing something right! I am doing something right.

And as for me, I dressed in a hurry. This outfit is a mishmash of things. And with being a bit unhappy with my body thanks to SULPHA and Prednisone, I wear things and then get home only to go back to sweat pants or yoga pants. I swell up, which is weird. I hate it. I look pregnant again. Just…….so frustrated, since I lost almost all of the baby weight only to gain more back! Thanks to a freaking pill and then a shot and more pills.

It saved my life, I just wish the side effects were better. I am sure I’m not the only one who feels that way.

I am wearing this hilarious tee from Shein. If you love FRIENDS, you will get the shirt’s reference!

YOu and your son both look great – your tee made me smile! It is so nice when they start to do independent things like dressing themselves too! 🙂

Hope that you are having a lovely weekend! It will be a quieter one here as we are all a little under the weather unfortunately, winter bugs have hit!
