Giving up and letting go. Instagram insanity.

OK, so I know what you are thinking. I am not giving up on the blog, never going to happen. Nor am I giving up on life and just living in sweat pants and the same beat up Universal Studios Tee for the rest of my life. No, I am giving up something minor, and letting it go.

The suspense must be eating you alive.

glamorousandgeeky blog wearing a striped jumpsuit and gold loafers with a wicker bag.No? YEah, I didnt think it would. Anyways, who here is started to get really tired of Instagram, and other social medias?  As a blogger, I think we experience this a lot. Some go on theme changing binges, and others look to other bloggers for inspo. And sometimes copy their themes, which I didn’t know was bad. Or a thing to really concern one’s self with. At least not for me it is. The constant worrying about algorithms, themes, keeping up with so and so, posting times,to post or not to post because it is “spammy” is getting on my last nerve. And that friends is running out.

Screwing the creators. I am giving up on being an obsessive compulsive instagramer, where everything is perfect. I am going to continue doing what I have been since my baby 2 was born and that is no theme, no overly staged pictures (not that I did that anyways), and not obsessing over this blogger went from 10 followers to 10,000 in a week.

I am letting that part of Instagram go.

glamorousandgeeky blog wearing a striped jumpsuit and gold loafers with a wicker bag.I am not saying I am leaving Instagram, no. Let me be honest, none of my blog traffic is from Insta. NONE. Sure it helps get my blog’s name out there to potential brands. And I can use it as an extension of my blog, like I do Tumblr. Brands love that follower count, and do not let any other blogger tell you otherwise. Go to activate and see how many brands want 20,000 followers or more. Not collectively either. And while my Pinterest gets around a mil pageviews a month, they care about that Instagram follower count. Not that I blame them, it is a platform that has millions of users.

glamorousandgeeky blog wearing a striped jumpsuit and gold loafers with a wicker bag. But, let me get real here, my thing on Instagram has been about keeping it real. Why? Because from what I have been seeing all over twitter, etc. People are wanting more realism along with the really beautiful staged photos. And weirdly some of my more “humble” pics get more views and likes. People want that connection. And for many, it gets hard to connect with a blogger who is wearing that same Gucci belt, that same Chanel bag, and those shoes that all the blogger IT girls have  wearing all this on a Yacht. Granted they worked their butts off to get there, and their images are just stunning( i love those accounts holy crap), but people are starting to want a bit more relatable posts. Like in one of, OK, a lot of my posts I have lately not been wearing makeup, and I talk about why. I think people on Instagram want to see a sense of vulnerability . Not saying you should ignore the whole planned out posts. Let’s face it that is great for brands! Brands love seeing that ad like post, beautiful done, and expertly handled.

But there has to be a happy medium mix, a good combination. I think I found it, once I gave up and let it all go.

Yes, I still post some obvious staged pictures. Those are to entice readers to hopefully check out the blog, and also get the attention of brands, as well as sometimes we want the prettiest things on our feeds. And then sometimes, I post the vulnerable me, the makeup less stressed out mom. And that all is OK, I think that once we give up and let go, we enjoy that bit of social media that became more of a jealousy ridden chore. That fun part of it is back and we can enjoy it again. Part of that is taking a break for a few days. The other part? Well, as I said above giving up on the “why am I not like them? Why can’t I have a billion followers too, Why aren’t I getting endorsements like they are, how come no one likes my page?” OR “I need to post every day at this time, and this time, hey it is for the gram, I am going to pose in someone’s back yard because they have a pink backdoor because I need that for my feed. Even though it trespassing.” For the record I wouldn’t ever do that! But, have seen others talk about it, seriously respect other people’s property, ASK them for permission! Do not get arrested for the sake of the “gram”. That is something to let go of and give up on!

NOW, let’s talk about my outfit!

glamorousandgeeky blog wearing a striped jumpsuit and gold loafers with a wicker bag.Guys this jumpsuit from Target is the cutest! I got a size medium and glad I did, it runs small in the waist and chest. The bag I have is actually from Amazon, by Somersby and Sons for $39.99. Yeah, it is a lot like the Cult Gaia bag, This one those actually has an insert so you don’t loose things out of the bag. But, the price is 70% less than the Cult Gaia bag, I still want that bright pink bag of theirs! That will be my next big bag purchase, a silly Pink Cult Gaia bag.

And I love t hem, what drew me to them is the fact that they are close to Gucci’s loafers. This whole look is so much fun to wear, I just wish I wasn’t swollen still. It is a horrendous side effect of Prednisone. Which is from this post here.

This is the cutest outfit and I love what you wrote, I relate so much! Right now I am stepping back from my Instagram because it has become such a stressful place to be, I just want to post my photos on there and not have to even think or worry about likes or trying to please everyone. I just want to show love for peoples work in other ways, it has become hard to know if a comment or like is genuine 😀 xx

Thank you! I have stepped away and looked at it and especially after seeing people getting mad at each other over themes, or colors. There is enough room on the Instagram world and blogosphere for everyone. SO, no I post what I want when I want and say screw it. And I am much happier!

First – I love the jumpsuit! You have the best style. Second – you’re so right about Instagram. Sometimes it is more poisonous than it is fun! I try to remember that I am sharing the unique story of my life, and just a little glimpse into what makes me happiest. I love your Insta (when I do see it – stupid algorithm) and your new hair is gorgeous!
