Feel the rainbow

When I was a  young tween in jr high(that is what they called it then…. #showinmyage ) I was a bit on the grungy punk side of fashion and lifestyle then. I think we all go through that phase. For some it never goes away and that in my humble opinion is freaking fantastic! And then the rest of us, grow out of it as our parents would say we would.  I would shop in stores like Gadzooks and see some gorgeous rainbow tights and such and knew they would need to be mine. So, home they would come with my money that was meant for school lunches. I would hold on to that money for shopping since I was not eating anyways due to having a hidden eating disorder. But that is another blog post.

I keep saying that.

Anyways, to school I would go wearing a black dress or in one instance a black and white camo dress , and wear my rainbow tights. I would wear them under my ripped up wide leg jeans. Good times. And some people loved them and their sparkly goodness and some would make fun of me like it was no tomorrow. Getting made fun of was something that happened a lot for me, and it hurt yeah but it also was something I was getting a bit numb to.

Sort of.

Then flash forward many many many years and here I am at the Michael Kors store freaking out in happiness over the rainbow sequin dress(I want that and want to mod it up!) and then saw this beautiful pleated rainbow skirt! I just had to have it! It made me smile.

Until that is, I got home with it.

I got the skirt home and there it sat in the bag. And I didn’t wear it. Why? Because it brought back all those memories of the stares, the laughs, the comments. It made me feel like I did when I was just a kid trying to find my way in fashion. I mean this was the time of Clueless and vinyl pants.. When that is all RAVE had in their stores…Vinyl pants! It made me self-conscious. Like I would get made fun of all day, like back then.

However, that did not happen.

But none of what I was affraid of happening happened. I was complimented on the skirt a lot! This skirt was part of Michael Kors pride collection, and it is a beautiful collection!

You should totally do a wayback post of your fashion as a jr high and high school kid! I’d love to see old pics! Omg, do I have memories of weird fashion choices I made when I was a kid. It would be fun to see!

Keep up the great blog work, Steph. I should give you kudos more often. Your posts are always something to look forward too.

Thank you so much molly! That would be scary! Hahaha my middle school picture was awkward and I looked horrible. Not a good time lmao . Although it is a true story of the ugly duckling. Haha. I always appreciate your comments!
