The 90’s revival is big right now, people are embracing the styles that were popular when I was a kid. Growing up then, I remember a lot of the 90’s fashion, somethings of the 90’s I feel should stay in that time period. Like, acid wash jeans, mullets, the weird geometric shapes and patterns on pants that were so big and neon bright. Think Saved By the Bell and stuff(late 80’s early 90’s) which eventually morphed into that Clueless sense of style. We all wanted Cher’s closet. There are some things of the 90’s thought that I love the comeback of like the layered slip dresses with tees and wider legged trousers. And ruffles on EVERYTHING, as well as body suits. Also the Grunge sense of style. That right there, I love right along with the ruffle goodness.
The trick is how do you get that Grunge style without looking like you stepped out of a 1990’s Eddie Bauer catalogue? How do you do it without looking dated, or trying too hard?
The trick to it is, KEEP it SIMPLE!!!! Plaid shirt in modern silhouette, a simple tee like this Metallica tee from Target and some jeans with tennis shoes or skater shoes. Think AirWalk or VANS. I found some that I like from COACH that work well with tulle too, you can see that outfit here. It is the simplicity of the Grunge style that I like. And you do not have to wear plaid if you do not want to. A tee and some nice wide leg pants will do fine. Easy style and if it is a plain tee, a simple choker. Add some modern accessories like a fun handbag and a more updated cut of jeans inspired by that style of the time.
Grunge was a great time fueled by the music. Think Nirvana here(one of my fave bands, which my hubby didn’t know that. Weird) and other music of that time. Sorry to say, nothing now can compare to the music of that time. (oh gosh I sound old as hell!) You can check out my playlist on Spotify here. And THANK GOD Foo Fighters released a new song RUN! GO LISTEN TO IT NOW!
